Full Circle- Back to the “Birth World”
This summer, it became clear to me that, as a solo-preneur and a mom-preneur, running my business as a Reiki practitioner and teacher for the last 10 years, I am being pulled to support women during the perinatal time (preparing to get pregnant, during pregnancy, and postpartum). When I moved to Colorado in 2015, I came thinking I was going to be part of a yoga studio teaching prenatal yoga, a doula collective practicing as a birth doula, and that there were all kinds of possibilities. And there were possibilities, and it did not all unfold exactly as I thought it would (it turned out even better). Two of the locations I was working closed within the first couple years of living here, and the people I thought I was going to work with did not work out. And then it did work out…
I did meet Jenevieve, one of the founders of JOY Collective in Boulder when I first arrived to Colorado, and she told me about Stacia, who was about to open A Moms Space in Lafayette. I held a new mom’s group at A Moms Space for 3.5 years, working with Stacia and A Moms Space, and practiced Reiki and started teaching Reiki classes there. I was part of Sanctuary Doulas, primarily as a postpartum doula and placenta encapsulator, and I was briefly part of Sage Birth and Wellness Collective. I love supporting the birth journey, and I slowly stepped away from practicing as a doula and teaching prenatal yoga when A Moms Space moved from the Simpson Street location in Lafayette. It felt like the right time to let go of the new mom’s group and for me to focus on building my Reiki practice of working with people one-on-one and teaching Reiki classes. Yet I still got to do a little birth work (next blog!)
This summer I first reached out to Amy Meilen, owner of Sage Birth and Wellness, sharing that I was being called to support the perinatal time again with Reiki, and asked if I could again join Sage and be the Reiki practitioner on their website. I was seeking to be part of a bigger community and to reconnect with the birth world. She shared that they have a brick and mortar office in Longmont and would I want to rent there? I went to the Sage July meeting at the Labyrinth in Lyons, and met 14 other Sage members. It was a clear yes, that I want to join this collective to be supported by this community. I then met up with Jenevieve to tell her I was being called to circle back to the birth world, just to let her know, and she asked if I would be interested in renting at the JOY Collective in Boulder. This was not even on my mind, and as I met with other practitioners from JOY (who I already know quite a few of them) it also was a clear yes, I would like to be part of the JOY Collective, to be part of a community of practitioners who all support each other’s work and share an office space.
So, that is what I’m doing… starting September (as I enter the decade of my 50s) I’m going to continue to work in Lafayette on Coal Creek on Thursdays and Fridays, and I will see clients in Boulder at JOY on Wednesdays, and in Longmont at the Sage office on Fridays. You don’t have to be in the perinatal time of life to see me at these locations. Both offices are super cozy, peaceful and welcoming and I’m so excited to be more accessible to those people in Boulder and Longmont and beyond. And to hopefully be connected to support more women with Reiki during the perinatal time! Grateful for the community who is so kind to welcome me back to this world! :)
